Occupation: Student Administration Manager
Are you trialing for a team this season?
I'll be trialling for WBUC (GB Women) and we're almost at the final stage for WG (Canada) selection.
I'll technically be a rookie on both of those teams, but I have competed at the World Games in 2022 with GB so I am one of the more experienced players on the team.
How do you feel about being a returner?
The prospect of returning to the World Games is very exciting, and I'd be competing with my home nation. I'm going into those training camps with a lot of confidence in my abilities and my frisbee brain, which I think is really important to bring to a trial with other elite players. I have the mindset that I deserve to be there and that it's other players who are having to step up to my level, even if that's not the reality.
With the WBUC trials, I'll be trialling as well as selecting the team which is a fun position to be in. I'll still be having to prove my abilities but I know I'm a player that others look up to so I try my best to lead by example, particularly with effort and communication on pitch. I like to be seen as a player who never gives up on the disc regardless of how tired I am, and that is a trait that I value highly in players I'm selecting for a team.
How do you prepare physically?
For physical preparation, I want to get the body very strong in the off season so it can support the demands of the sport. Since tearing my ACL in 2023, I have been doing a lot of unilateral strength work which has helped me get back in the game a lot earlier than I otherwise would have (thanks Heather Gibson!).
With cardio, I stick to non-running based exercise to give my body a break from the impact. I love a swim, or grinding out 30 minutes of intervals on the stairmaster while watching an episode of Gossip Girl.
How do you prepare mentally?
With mental preparation, I re-read The Champion's Mind (or specific excerpts) at the beginning of each season to get me into the right training headspace. I also like to hype myself up before any trials or important trainings.
If you know me then you'll know I'm a highly self-confident player and I think that really lends itself to on-pitch performance.
